I planned to give the piece a vintage look using one of the oldest and most iconic art mediums: chalk. The intention with the artwork was to reflect the grey area wherein Marilyn Monroe spent her career and life. Despite being a widely celebrated sex icon who was way ahead of her time and living a seemingly perfect life, she was heavily misunderstood and battled intense mental health issues until intentionally overdosing on barbiturates and ending her life.

The process:

This hands-on piece was created with nothing but a wide array of chalks. I blended all aspects of this piece with my fingers, to create a black & white portrait of Marilyn Monroe.
